We’ve all done it, the annual unpacking of the winter coats. Wedged to the back of the wardrobe for months, the ritual entails rediscovering old faves you’ve forgotten, a swift try on session, followed by the hanging up of a carefully edited, mini capsule line up of winners. The losers have already been thrown in the corner ready for the local charity shop drop off.

Satisfied with your new found outerwear, you have every intention of taking them to the dry cleaners, a little refresher is all they need to become your new season coat gold. Only, that was a few weeks ago and there they still are, hanging up all unloved and unappealing. There’s not a single dry cleaning bag in sight and it looks like you’re going to be picking up that new winter coat you spied after all.

So let me introduce you to a very strong option. Meet duster. She’s smart, comfy, moves like a dream and is every inch the polished (neat lines, great colour), savvy (so versatile), and sassy (did I mention she moves like a dream?) hero cover up of autumn/winter.

Try An Every-Wear Duster Coat

This grey number has that perfect weight to it that’s not too bulky and great for layering with knitwear and high necks underneath. I’d probably go for a chunkier jumper on a colder day, like this red cable knit. The silvery grey shade is also one of those hues that neatly slots into your already hardworking wardrobe line up but for an even safer bet, check out the black version too.

Add Polish With Sock Boots

Sock boots have been on my autumn target list for a while and I’ve been holding out for the perfect throw-on-with-all black pair. These are a pretty solid find and are possibly the comfiest ankle stiletto you’ll ever encounter. You can thank the stretchy sock top and cushioned sole.

How To Style It

Up The Power With Add-Ons

You’ve now got the foundations of a great autumn outfit, but let’s not forget accessories to elevate. Looking for a way to wear your summer tasselled jewellery finds now? Tie in the colour with a similarly hued high neck top. Job done.

Colour-tint sunglasses are my new cold-season find. Driving in winter’s low sunlight or going out for a walk on a cloudy day, I still like to have some eye protection but it’s not always necessary to have a fully blacked-out or deeply shaded lens. Polaroid has the happy medium and these trophy rose tinted specs really are the piece pulling together so many of my day to day looks right now.

Duster Coat

Choosing a curved top bag added some interest to an otherwise pretty everyday shape and colour, this bag is so light to carry and has a long, cross body strap too. I wanted to coordinate the coat and bag and I think these shades work pretty well, but for everyday I’ll be grabbing my autumn/winter season red Mulberry Bayswater tote and switching up the stiletto boots for some Vans.
