Since 1985, when French artist Kiki Picasso collaborated with iconic watchmakers Swatch to make 140 specially designed timepieces, Swatch has continued to hook up with big names from the fashion, art and sports world under an umbrella entitled Swatch&Art.
Spring/Summer 2011 sees American designer Jeremy Scott take on the challenge. Yesterday, in ultra cool style destination Colette in Paris, the man himself launched these three Swatch beauties. A baroque frame, lightening bolt and set of wings mimic the signature Scott pop art vibe which graces many of his catwalk designs.
‘I put the wings on one because, well, you know… time flies!’ Scott jested at Colette. ‘The frame comes from an opulent baroque picture frame I have. The lightening bolt references my obsession with cartoons.’
Fashion-Editor cornered the designer for a quick chat and photo op before joining him and the international Swatch team for a yummy dinner of smoked salmon, steak and chips and chocolate pudding at L’ARC. (Do check out this venue, Givenchy also held its Paris Fashion Week party here and it is fab.)
Be quick if you have your eye on one of these designs readers, Swatch is producing a limited edition run of 777 pieces and knowing its cult following – there are fanatics out there who collect every Swatch design going – you lot are going to have to act fast.
